IMRI experts studied the dynamics of the development of sheet glass production in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Experts from the Institute for Macroeconomic and Regional Studies (IMRI) studied the dynamics of the development of sheet glass production in Uzbekistan

Sheet glass is one of the main factors in ensuring the implementation of development programs for the construction industry, housing and communal services, furniture and other industries, creating opportunities to find new architectural and design solutions during construction that increase the compositional attractiveness of buildings.

The main types of raw materials for glass production: soda ash, quartz sand, feldspar, limestone and dolomite are available in various regions of Uzbekistan.

High demand and significant market development potential, stimulating government policies that have created a favorable business environment in the country, have attracted the attention of a number of investors to the glass industry.

In recent years, there has been a real breakthrough in the development of the glass industry in Uzbekistan: in Jizzakh, Navoi and Ferghana regions, new production facilities for large-format, thermally polished types of architectural, construction and patterned glass of various thicknesses have been organized on the basis of innovative energy-saving float technologies.

Float glass (thermopolished) is obtained by pouring molten glass mass onto a fixed layer of molten tin. Due to the lower density, the glass mass forms the top layer, at the junction of glass and tin a smooth surface is obtained, providing stable thickness and natural light in the interiors.

In 2022, Uzbekistan produced 35.4 million square meters of glass (in 2 mm terms). With a 62.4% increase in the volume of construction work in 2018-2022, glass production increased by 112.8% over the period under review, which shows that the market is filling the market with products that are in demand in various sectors of the economy.

This made it possible to achieve in 2022 an increase in glass exports by 6.5 times compared to 2018, and a reduction in imports by 51.6%.

The development of newly created capacities for the production of wide-format sheet glass of various thicknesses creates conditions for further effective development of the glass and related industries in the regions, an increase in exports of high-quality products and a reduction in imports.
