Coal production in Uzbekistan is planned to increase by 22% "taking into account the needs of the population, the social sphere and industries," the press service of the head of state reports.

On January 15, Shavkat Mirziyoyev got acquainted with a presentation on the work done in the field of geology and future plans. 1 trillion soums were allocated annually for work in the field of geology, as a result of which 31 thousand square kilometers of new sites were explored.

Currently, the industry is implementing investment projects worth $1.7 billion.

However, there are many untapped opportunities in the field to expand deposits and the scale of their development. In this regard, the President set the task of attracting foreign technologies and investments in geological exploration to increase its efficiency and production.

The Head of state also touched upon the issue of processing enrichment waste based on best practices.

In an interview with Uzbekistan 24, Minister of Mining and Geology Bobir Islamov said that the president had instructed to develop a strategic mineral resource base with the involvement of international experts, as well as identify "unconventional" deposits.

In addition, the president instructed to provide entrepreneurs with "high-quality and cheap" kaolin (white clay).

In November last year, Bobir Islamov announced the development of a new law on subsoil with the involvement of international consultants Boston Consulting Group, providing for the nature of direct action.

According to the Statistics Agency, 5.73 million tons of coal were mined in Uzbekistan in January-November last year. Compared to 2022, production increased by 19.1%..
