Shavkat Mirziyoyev visits the Foundry and Mechanical Plant in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 19 March, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Foundry and Mechanical Plant in Tashkent.

This plant, with an area of more than 40 hectares, previously did not operate at full capacity and was unprofitable. In 2013, it was transferred to the management of the joint stock company Uzbekistan Temir Yollari and underwent modernization. In recent years, the localization of production has expanded significantly, which has led to an increase in the economic efficiency of the plant.

Today the plant is capable of producing 1,200 and repairing 1,500 freight cars per year.

The plant’s product range is in great demand. Six types of freight cars are produced here, including semi-open, closed, with a long wheelbase, and also intended for the transportation of grain, cement and mineral fertilizers.

Foundry production at the plant is a key industry, the “heart” of heavy industry. Through an investment of US$120 million, a foundry was built capable of producing 26,000 tons of products per year. All types of spare parts used in the operation of railways and the repair of rolling stock are cast here.

The President got acquainted with the production process and noted that the main goal is to create more jobs. Plans also include building 100,000 homes this year, which will require large numbers of jobs.

The plant is invited to increase the production of goods for construction, utilities and other industries, as well as to introduce entrepreneurs to cooperation opportunities.

Currently, the plant has 26 workshops, including car building, mechanical assembly, wheel, foundry, repair, pressing, blanking and assembly. A program was also implemented to localize the production of about 100 types of products, which contributed to an increase in export volumes.

During the period from 2018 to 2023, the company successfully implemented a production localization program, covering about 100 types of products. As a result, in 2023, products were produced totaling 267 billion soums. In addition, 170 wagons and spare parts were exported for a total of US$10 million.

For the current year, it is planned to increase the export volume to US$15 million.
