AGMK is building a new copper concentration plant

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Currently, one of the world’s largest projects is being carried out at the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Plant (AGMK) - the construction of a copper concentration plant-3. With the launch of this factory, the production of copper concentrate will reach 1 million tons per year. The press service of AGMK said this.

To extract copper and other precious metals from this concentrate, new metallurgical facilities must be built.

Before the start of construction of the new metallurgical complex, advanced technologies for smelting and converting copper were studied.

The technology chosen by AGMK specialists will increase the degree of copper extraction to 98.4%. Another important advantage of this technology is its minimal impact on the environment. All processes take place in closed systems, and harmful emissions are minimal (collection of harmful gas emissions is 99.2% -99.7%).

The capacity of this complex will be 300 thousand tons of copper cathode and 1.8 million tons of sulfuric acid per year. The sulfuric acid produced by the complex will be used to expand the production capacity of the chemical and uranium industries, as well as for other new industrial enterprises.

An increase in copper production volumes will make it possible to develop the processing of copper raw materials in Uzbekistan and the production of new types of copper products with high added value.

Precious metals - gold and silver - obtained from copper concentrates will contribute to an increase in the gold and foreign exchange reserves of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the development of the domestic jewelry industry.

The implementation of this project will lead to the creation of thousands of new jobs and will make AGMK one of the largest copper smelters in the world.

Earlier it was reported that Metso and Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Company JSC signed a framework agreement on the supply of equipment for a new copper smelter in Uzbekistan.
