ADB allocates $174 million for the construction of two wind farms in Uzbekistan

The construction of two power plants in the Bukhara region will be the largest utility-scale wind power project in the Central and Western Asia region.

The Asian Development Bank and ACWA Power have signed loans in the amount of $174 million for the development of the Bash wind power plant and the Dzhankeldinsky wind power plant located in the Bukhara region.

The financing includes loans in the amount of $40.5 million for the Bash power Plant and $46.5 million for the Dzhankeldinsky power plant, which are financed from ADB's usual capital resources.

ADB will also administer $40.5 million for the Bash Power Plant and $46.5 million for the Junkeld Power Plant from Asia's leading private infrastructure fund.

The loans will also be used for the construction of 282.5 km of a single-chain overhead power transmission line with a voltage of 500 kilovolts for connection to the power grid.

Each power plant consists of 79 wind turbines – 158 turbines in total, which will generate 3,235 GWh and displace almost 2 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent per year.

It is noted that this will be the largest utility-scale wind power project in the region of Central and Western Asia.
